Journey to Maui༄

Christmas of 2017, my world traveling aunt gifted my brother and I with a life changing experience. She happily shared these words in a handwritten letter, “You two may choose one place in the world and I will take you there.” After long talks with my brother Nolan and some suggestions from my aunt Robin, we graciously agreed on a destination. The island in Hawaii known as Maui. My excitement for this experience grew every day, having something like that to look forward to changed my whole perspective in my day to day life. When the day came, we flew from the Abe Lincoln Springfield Illinois airport to Seattle, Washington. At the time, my aunt was living there finishing her PhD at WashU. We explored Seattle for two days, growing my love for this type of busy, large community. The fast pace everyday life occurring in this city was so beautiful to me, but only tolerable for short periods of time due to the overwhelming feeling I felt while walking the streets and exploring. From Seattle, we flew a long 10 hours to the island of Maui, Hawaii. I filled my time with watching Disney’s Lilo and Stitch, sleeping, and asking my brother probably hundreds of questions about his life. My excitement for Maui and pure joy conquered any feelings I had of boredom on the flight. Flying over the ocean brought on loads of anxiety but I had to remind myself the chances of something actually going wrong, which were slim. We flew over the islands of Hawaii and finally landed in Maui. I was the happiest I’d been in a very long time due to the excitement of what was to come…
