Skincare ✧・゚: *✧・゚:*

Since my freshman year of high school (to current day as a junior in college) I’ve struggled with acne. Cystic, blackheads, whiteheads…. you name it. I would visit the dermatologist often, trying Accutane, Tretinoin, and oral medications. These all ended up working for a few months, then pretty soon the acne would come back even worse. This problem left me doing hours of research and scrolling through public advice from strangers who had experienced the same issues. I tried EVERYTHING. In the following I’ll list a number of brands or products that I did not have very much luck with, then which products have helped my skin.

***Disclaimer: the products that worked for me may not work for somebody else, the products that did not work for me may work wonders for someone else. Everyone’s skin is different!***

From Walgreens & Target mostly- I tried almost every Neutrogena product in existence, their makeup removal wipes are great but I stopped wearing makeup awhile ago as it usually irritates my acne. I tried the tea tree line from the Body Shop (after hearing it was a huge help with ridding acne), saw no difference after a month and a half of religious use and to me that meant on to the next one. I tried, the newly over the counter, Differin products, and had no luck. I also tried Proactive & ProactiveMD. These conquered my black/whitehead issues but I only saw my cystic acne worsening (and if you’ve had cystic acne you know it can hurt like a b****). I tried the Biorè line, Clean & Clear, L’Oréal, Olay, bioClarity, all helped a little bit but I was still seeing quite a lot of acne. I tried many more products that I probably shouldn’t have, like ones that were cheap and contained some pretty gruesome ingredients. If you suffer from acne, it’s often better to spend a little more money, for the quality of the products.

I did find some luck using these products and specific routine (cleanse, exfoliate every three days, toner, spot treatments, serum, sunscreen, moisturizer)…. the cheapest product in my current routine would be my toner, Witch Hazel (Thayers or Dickinson’s). It has done wonders for my skin since I day I began using it. Some cleansers that have been wondrous include Cerave & Cetaphil (can be purchased at a Walgreens), Drunk Elephant Jelly Cleanser (order online at their website or purchase at Sephora), Aveeno Positively Radiant & Aveeno Clear Complexion (can be purchased at Walgreens), Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser (online or at Sephora) and the Raspberry Soap Bar. Shea Moisture and Pacifica also have great cleansers!!! Some serums that have helped in a major way include Drunk Elephant Marula Facial Oil (a personal favorite), Mario Badescu Anti Acne Serum & Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum. No7, TULA, Botanics, Sunday Riley, and Fresh all have amazing serums too!! Moisturizers that have transformed my skin include YourGoodSkin ProVitamin Overnight Cream, FirstAid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream/ Hydra-Firm, Clinique Moisture Surge and Origins Ginzing & A Perfect World. Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch‘s are also incredible!!!

Thank u for coming to my ted talk. More to come on my journey through the world of skincare and getting clear skin!!!!
